Christmas and sleigh rides, skiing and snowmen, snow days and snow angels..... These are all fun things about winter, but let's get real - snow is a big pain in the ass! One thing that always makes winter difficult is the cost of heating oil, but lately that has not been as much of a problem. With oil under $2 a gallon, our economy has seen a reprieve from the grueling tax of home heating - THANK YOU. Here's a breakdown of how oil costs effect various households. The data is from 2012, so winter doesn't suck nearly as bad it has in the past.

Eddie Murphy did a famous stand up comedy skit where he mimics his crazy relatives as they host a barbecue, culminating in the catchprase "now that's a fire" as the flame on the barbecue becomes obscenely large with a wonder coming from him as to the necessity of it all.
I often read articles that describe how much oil Americans use everyday or each year, but the amount never makes any literal sense to me. What the hell is 20 million barrels? To put it into context, I did some rough math to help with conceptualizing our daily usage:
1.) The United States uses 20 million barrels of oil each day. 2.) An Olympic sized swimming pool contains over 600,000 gallons of water. 3.) 20 million barrels = over 600,000,000 (that million) gallons.
So if you filled 100 Olympic sized swimming pools with oil each day, and burned all the oil contained within, then you'd basically be igniting the amount of fuel the United States uses each day. Pyromaniacs rejoice - now THAT'S a fire!!
Here's a few other oil facts to help you with understanding where our oil comes from:
